Economics.
The Reno-Sparks area economy is the most dynamic in Nevada. Recent growth in the logistic, manufacturing, and distribution industries, along with the addition of regional service centers, has done much to diversify the area’s traditionally strong tourism and recreation-based economy.

Climate.

Reno is also home to an opera company, symphony and chamber orchestras, ballet, repertory theatre companies, art galleries and museums.
Located only 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe, Reno-Sparks has been ranked by Rand McNally as the nation’s #1 location for outdoor recreation. The area is home to over 40 golf courses, and the region has over 18 world-class ski resorts just 45 minutes from Downtown. Winter skiing and snowboarding, summer water sports, hunting, fishing, jet-skiing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, and camping combine to provide year-round recreational opportunities for all.
Education.
Reno/Sparks area schools provide quality education for our youth. Local schools, public and private, boast small class sizes, challenging curricula, and state-of-the-art facilities. As a testament to the success of area schools, students in the area consistently exceed regional and national averages for SAT and ACT scores.
The University of Nevada, Reno, is the oldest state university in Nevada. The campus, which opened in 1885 as a land-grant college, currently has over 12,500 students, and offers 74 undergraduate degrees, 64 master’s degrees, 33 doctoral degree programs, and a medical school. UNR is home to the internationally-recognized Mackay School of Mines, while the Engineering Department is famed for its research in earthquake and structural studies. The Ansari College of Business and the Reynold’s School of Journalism have been awarded numerous distinctions for excellence in their respective programs. Local businesses benefit from the University’s collaborative research efforts, internship programs, and technology transfers.
